This is a permanent, full-time role, with part-time considered for the right candidate. We are looking for someone to start in September 2025, though a July 2025 start would also be welcomed for an early transition!
As a Design Technology Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality DT lessons to students across various key stages. You will foster creativity, problem-solving skills, and a passion for design and practical application. You will have the opportunity to work within a well-equipped department and contribute to the school’s continuous success.
Responsibilities:
- Planning, preparing, and delivering exciting and effective Design Technology lessons to students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (Years 7-11), potentially including a specialism in areas such as Product Design, Resistant Materials, Textiles, or Food Technology.
- Assessing, monitoring, recording, and reporting on the learning needs, progress, and achievements of assigned pupils.
- Creating a positive, stimulating, and safe learning environment in practical workshops and classrooms.
- Developing and implementing innovative teaching methods to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Contributing to the development and enhancement of the Design Technology curriculum. Managing and maintaining equipment and resources safely and effectively within the DT department.
- Participating in departmental meetings, school events, and professional development opportunities.
- Fostering strong relationships with students, colleagues, and parents, and actively engaging in the wider school community.
Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
- A relevant Design Technology degree or a degree with a significant DT component.
- Proven experience teaching Design Technology across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 in a UK secondary school.
- A strong understanding of the National Curriculum for Design Technology and current pedagogical practices.
- Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
- Passion for your subject and a genuine desire to develop students’ practical and creative skills.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
