As a Daily Supply Primary Teaching Assistant, you will be crucial in providing vital support to primary pupils and class teachers during short-term absences or periods of increased need. You will work across various primary school settings, supporting student learning, managing classroom activities, and contributing to a positive educational environment for young learners. This role is perfect for TAs who thrive on variety and prefer to work without the long-term commitments of a permanent position.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the class teacher in managing the classroom and maintaining a positive learning atmosphere for primary-aged children.
  • Assisting individual pupils or small groups with their learning activities, as directed by the teacher. Helping to prepare and organise learning resources and classroom displays for primary classrooms.
  • Listening to children read, reading to them, and assisting with literacy and numeracy tasks.
  • Supervising pupils during breaks and lunchtimes, where required, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Reporting on pupil progress and any behavioural issues to the class teacher.
  • Promoting independence and positive behaviour among primary pupils.
  • Adapting support to meet the diverse needs of pupils across different primary year groups.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of how to support primary pupil learning and manage classroom behaviour effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with young pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting primary children’s development.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach to working in different primary school environments.
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential for daily supply work. An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through us.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
